Our Indigenous Doula Course is designed to provide training and certification for individuals who want to provide culturally-centered, respectful, and empowering doula care to Indigenous families and communities. This course is designed and taught by Indigenous doulas who have extensive experience in supporting Indigenous families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
The course is divided into several modules, each of which covers different aspects of Indigenous doula care. Topics include:
Historical Trauma and Resilience: In this module, you will learn about the historical trauma experienced by Indigenous communities and the ways in which it has impacted childbirth and parenting practices. You will also learn about the resilience and strength of Indigenous families and communities and how to honor and respect their cultural practices.
Traditional Indigenous Birth Practices: This module covers traditional Indigenous birth practices and ceremonies, including the use of herbs, storytelling, and spiritual practices. You will learn how to incorporate these practices into your doula care and how to work collaboratively with Indigenous healers and birth workers.
Pregnancy, Birth, and Postpartum Care: This module covers the stages of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, as well as strategies for supporting Indigenous families during these stages. You will learn how to provide emotional, physical, and spiritual support to Indigenous families and how to advocate for their preferences during childbirth.

Breastfeeding Counselor: This module provides students with an understanding of the principles and techniques of breastfeeding counseling. Students will learn about the anatomy and physiology of lactation, common breastfeeding challenges, and effective counseling techniques to support and promote breastfeeding.
Cultural Competency and Sensitivity: This module covers the importance of cultural competency and sensitivity when working with Indigenous families. You will learn about cultural safety, anti-racism, and how to build relationships based on mutual respect and trust.

Business Skills: In this module, you will learn how to market yourself as a doula, set up a business, and manage client relationships. You will also learn about legal and ethical considerations for doula practice.

The course is delivered through a combination of online lectures, live webinars, and hands-on practice sessions. You will have the opportunity to work with real clients under the supervision of experienced Indigenous doulas, gaining valuable practical experience.
Upon completion of the course, you will receive certification as an Indigenous Doula and be eligible to join our network of certified Indigenous Doulas. You will also have the skills and knowledge needed to provide culturally-centered, respectful, and empowering doula care to Indigenous families and communities.
We believe that every Indigenous family deserves to have access to culturally-centered, respectful, and empowering doula care. Join us and become part of a growing movement to honor and respect Indigenous birth practices and support Indigenous families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
